Pet City

August 2003

Hello! My name is Laurie Anne Akie King and I am thrilled to have been invited by Pet City to share some of my experiences in the realm of Nature and Animal Communication. Thank you Pet City! My work includes psychic mediumship and a variety of complimentary health therapies. One in particular is called CranioSacral Therapy (CST), a gentle modality developed over 25 years ago by osteopathic physician and researcher John E. Upledger, D.O., O.M.M. This therapy improves body functioning, reduces (or eliminates) pain and discomfort and supports the natural healing process, self-correction and the dissipation of stored tension in the central nervous system.

It was early March 2003 when I had the joy of meeting a brilliant standard black Poodle named Jade. Although I did not know it at the time, the real purpose of my visit was to offer Jade CST! I treat many humans and animals with CST but I had never before experienced such a profound level of connectivity with an animal that culminated into a new level of psychic awareness. Let me explain.

As I entered this home for an entirely unrelated purpose, Jade was the first to greet me. After an impressive recital of standard poodle joie de vivre, Jade became unusually still as she looked me in the eye. She was telepathically connecting with me! As I smiled from my heart in acknowledgment, Jade turned her hindquarters towards me. An energetic contract had just been signed and sealed and I was hired on the spot! I looked at her owner and tenderly indicated that Jade was empathically communicating with me. Normally, it is me who initiates this level of communication but Jade had read me like an open book. She knew at an energetic level that I could fully understand her and that I could alleviate some of her discomfort. Jade was merely asking for my professional assistance. After obtaining permission from her rather bemused owner, I bent down to the ground while Jade stepped in closer to me, consenting to my therapeutic approach. I have learned that working on animals (as well as children and babies) is usually spontaneous. Jade generously gifted me with the experience of her unconditionally asking me for what she needed versus my asking to offer assistance to her. She had no attachment as to whether or not I would facilitate her healing process. Animals just seem to know what they need and when, regardless of whether or not it is convenient. They are also not limited by socially accepted norms. We need only to listen to these great teachers.

This is not to suggest you are to begin feeding your animals from the table. There is a subtle difference between unconditionally listening to your pet and spoiling an animal, but this is a subject for another article.

So, there I was, kneeling on a hard ceramic floor in the front hall of this house happily offering Jade her first CST session. I first contacted her sacrum just above her tail. Immediately, her pelvis began to 'unwind', a natural self-correcting response. She reclined on the floor with a thud and a deep breath, surrendering to the therapeutic process now unfolding in her whole body. Her respiratory system changed its breathing pattern several times, indicating that her nervous system was dissipating old restrictions.

Like discovering a treasure chest, I soon realized that Jade was pregnant! In an exchange of absolute trust, Jade invited my awareness deep into her womb as if showing me her growing babies. I was truly honoured.

Next, I was drawn to her upper cervical spine, just behind and below her ears where once again she self corrected as I connected with the tissue restrictions. Interestingly, these cervical restrictions in particular carried the energetic or psychic information of having been in her central nervous system since her own birthing process. In other words, Jade had been struggling with a compensatory pattern in her spine since her own birth. I see patterns like this a lot not only in animals but people too. The trauma of birth was stored in her spine like a story waiting to be revisited from a safe perspective and without any drama, efficiently reintegrated and healed.

Finally, I was drawn to 'unwind' Jade's tail, which is basically an extension of her coccyx. She enjoyed the sensation so much she changed from lying on her side to a prone position. Seconds later Jade caught me off guard as she bounced back to her feet and with a big wet lick to my face, trotted contentedly away with a wag of her tail as only a standard poodle can exhibit. She was done with me, for the moment! But, after that first encounter, each time I saw my new poodle friend Jade, she made sure she got my hands on her body exactly where she needed them, even if only for a few moments.

In my next article, I look forward to sharing more of my experiences with Jade and her litter of puppies.

Cheers,
Laurie Anne.
